An ambulance is a rolling treatment area. The ambulance carries one patient after another, often with no opportunity for anything more than a wipe-down between jobs. That makes the seating surface itself part of your infection control and where seamless seating makes a huge difference.
Why Seamless?
Conventional vehicle upholstery is sewn. Every seam is a line of stitching, and every stitch is a perforation in the surface. Blood and other fluids seep into that stitching and into the channels between panels, where they are extremely difficult to reach – so they stay there after the seat has been cleaned and the surface looks clean.
An EVS seamless seat is vac-formed as a single continuous surface. There is no stitching, no seam and no join for fluids or contaminants to get into. What is on the surface can be removed from the surface.
Removing the seams removes the part of a seat that cleaning cannot reliably reach.
A surface that survives real disinfection
Cleanability is only useful if the surface tolerates what you actually clean it with. EVS seat vinyl is formulated to be able to be disinfected with sodium hypochlorite (ordinary bleach diluted 1:10) or bleach germicidal wipes, which is the practical standard in a busy working ambulance that carries multiple patients in every shift.
It is a non-porous, medical-grade vinyl with a protective finish, so repeated cleaning does not degrade it into the cracked and porous surface that cheaper materials become over time.
Blood-borne pathogens
Seamless upholstery is specified to allow the easy and complete removal of blood-borne pathogens, in line with health and safety recommendations for patient transport. The seamless design means that nothing is left where your cleaning cannot reach it.
That is a meaningful distinction. A stitched seat can be cleaned thoroughly and still retain material in the seams or fluids that leach into the seat pads. A seamless seat cannot, because there are no seams to become a reservoir for contaminants.
The requirement is not ours alone. The US national ambulance standard requires patient-compartment seating to have exposed surfaces free of anywhere biological contaminants can become trapped, and to comply with the OSHA blood-borne pathogens standard. A stitched seam is exactly the kind of place that requirement is written to exclude.

Contaminated surfaces are a recognised route of transmission, and attention has moved from hospital wards to the vehicles that feed them. A seamless seat removes a known reservoir by design.

A seat that genuinely wipes clean in the time you actually have between jobs, rather than one that needs stripping down to do properly. No seams also means no ridges under you on a twelve-hour shift.
